The Butterfly Riviera is a bedroom designed to feel like a secret garden after dark — moody, layered, and full of personality. It’s a space where deep colors, soft textures, and unexpected details come together to create a dreamy escape. Inspired by nature, transformation, and a love for bold storytelling, this space is equal parts calming and expressive.

It All Started with the Wallpaper
The entire design began with the wallpaper. We were drawn to this Dark Floral Wallpaper for its dramatic black backdrop and vibrant, painterly florals. It’s bold, moody, and slightly seductive — setting the tone for the whole room.
The rich colors in the mural became our palette, guiding everything from textiles to artwork. It created an immersive, intimate vibe that feels like stepping into an enchanted night garden.
Design Tip: Starting with wallpaper can help you build a cohesive and compelling design story. Choose something with color, pattern, and soul — and let it lead the way.
Butterfly Wall Art with Depth and Drama
With such a statement-making wallpaper, we knew our wall art had to be intentional. We explored several ideas but wanted something dimensional and meaningful. Once we discovered these real framed butterflies, everything clicked.
We curated a small layered gallery over the bed using a mix of butterfly shapes and colors. Framed in sleek black shadow boxes, the butterflies add elegance, texture, and just the right amount of edge. It’s a nod to transformation, movement, and natural beauty — tying perfectly into the story of the space.

Bedding That Feels Lush, Lived-In, and Layered
To balance the depth of the wallpaper, we kept the bedding plush, moody, and full of quiet detail. At the base is a deep plum washed linen duvet — rich in color and relaxed in feel. Its soft linen texture adds warmth and breathability while grounding the palette in a sophisticated, layered way.
We paired it with dark floral sheets and pillowcases, echoing the wallpaper's botanical details for a hidden, cohesive detail. Accent pillows in soft textures and neutral patterns were added to bring depth and comfort without competing with the bold prints.
Finishing the bed is a pink moth tapestry blanket — a playful and poetic piece that mirrors the butterfly wall art. With muted pastels, moth illustrations, and painterly florals, it adds a final layer of softness and visual interest to the bed.
Together, the bedding feels moody, romantic, and perfectly collected — a balance of luxury and lived-in comfort.
A Moroccan Rug That Grounds the Room
To ground the space and bring in a global layer, we sourced a custom Moroccan rug in rich earth tones — oranges, greens, and deep blues that all reflect the colors of the wallpaper.
Its unique pattern and nubby texture add soul and softness underfoot, creating warmth and personality from the ground up. It’s a moment of contrast that ties everything together and gives the room a well-traveled, curated feel.
Why We Love Sourcing from Etsy
Many of the pieces in the Butterfly Riviera room were thoughtfully sourced from Etsy. We love shopping Etsy not just for the variety, but because it allows us to explore independent artists, vintage sellers, and small studios from around the world.
It’s our favorite way to find one-of-a-kind pieces that add story and character to a space — from custom rugs and floral throws to preserved butterfly art. Supporting artists while building curated interiors is always a win in our book.

Every Piece Tells a Story
The Butterfly Riviera is more than just a bedroom — it’s a moody escape layered with intention. Every item, from the wallpaper to the butterfly art to the final throw pillow, was chosen to build a story of transformation, romance, and natural beauty.
